How to get a high score

Tips for glasses for your face

  • Pick frames that contrast with your face shape: angular frames for round faces, round frames for square faces.
  • The top of the frame should follow your brow line.
  • Frames should be about as wide as the widest part of your face.
  • Your eyes should sit near the center of each lens.
  • Match frame color to your undertone: warm tones like tortoiseshell or gold for warm skin, black, silver or blue-grey for cool skin.

Photo tips

  • Face the camera straight on with hair pulled back so your whole face outline shows
  • Use a clear, sharp photo, not a screenshot.
  • Make sure the subject fills most of the frame.

How to find glasses that suit your face

Choose Find my best frames and upload a front-facing photo. Our AI works out your face shape, then suggests frame shapes, sizes and colors that suit you, plus the styles to skip. Already have glasses? Choose Rate my current glasses and upload a photo of you wearing them to get a score for shape match, size and fit, and color match, with tips.

The golden rule: choose frames that contrast with your face shape. Angular frames balance soft, curved faces, and rounded frames soften strong, angular faces. Not sure of your face shape yet? Use our face shape detector first.

Glasses for a round face

Round faces are about as wide as they are long, with full cheeks and a soft jaw. Frames with angles add definition and make the face look a little longer.

Glasses for an oval face

Oval faces are longer than they are wide with balanced proportions, so most frame shapes work.

Glasses for a square face

Square faces have a strong jaw and a forehead, cheekbones and jaw of similar width. Curved frames soften the angles.

Glasses for a heart-shaped face

Heart-shaped faces are wider at the forehead and cheekbones and narrower at the chin. The aim is to balance the top and bottom of the face.

Questions

Do the same rules apply to sunglasses?

Yes. Sunglasses follow the same face shape rules, but you can go a little bigger. Oversized and aviator sunglasses suit many faces because they cover more of the face.

Should glasses be wider than my face?

Only slightly. Frames that are a little wider than the widest part of your face often look balanced, especially on round and square faces. Frames much wider or narrower than your face usually look out of proportion.

Can I break the rules?

Absolutely. Face shape guides are a starting point, not a law. Confidence and comfort matter most, and your optician can help with the final fit.
