How to get a high score
Tips for photos & selfies
- Face a window or shoot outdoors in shade for soft, even light.
- Hold the camera at eye level or slightly above.
- Keep the background simple and tidy.
- Tap to focus on the eyes or the main subject.
- Clean your lens before you shoot.
Photo tips
- Upload the original photo, not a screenshot, so details stay sharp
- Use a clear, sharp photo, not a screenshot.
- Make sure the subject fills most of the frame.
How our AI rates your photo
Upload any picture, from a selfie or profile picture to a travel shot or food photo, and our AI looks at it the way a photography coach would. You get a score from 1 to 10 for lighting, composition and focus and clarity, plus up to three specific things to fix next time.
We rate the photo, not the person. The AI never scores your face, body or attractiveness. It looks at things you can actually change: where the light comes from, how you frame the shot, the camera angle, the background and how much editing you used.
What makes a good selfie or profile picture?
- Soft, even light. Face a window or stand in open shade. Harsh overhead light and strong backlight are the most common reasons a photo scores low.
- Camera at eye level. Shooting from far below or far above changes proportions. Hold the phone at eye level or slightly above, and keep it at arm's length or more.
- A simple background. Clear away clutter, or step closer to a plain wall, greenery or sky so the eye goes straight to you.
- Sharp focus on the eyes. Tap the screen on your eyes before you take the shot and keep your hand steady.
- Light editing. A small boost to brightness or contrast is fine. Heavy filters and skin smoothing usually look less natural and lower the score.
- The right crop. For profile pictures, your face should fill most of the frame. For dating profile photos, mix a clear head-and-shoulders shot with one or two photos that show what you enjoy doing.
Questions
Is my photo saved?
No. Your photo is sent to the AI only to create your rating and is not stored on our servers. See our privacy policy.
Can I rate my dating profile pictures?
Yes. Choose "Dating profile photo" in the list and the AI will check whether the photo is clear, well lit and shows your face and personality, with tips to improve it.
Why did my photo get a low score?
Most low scores come from dark or uneven lighting, blur, a cluttered background or the subject being too small in the frame. Read the "What to fix" tips, take a new photo and try again.
